Transforming data into intelligence

We’re commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to collect data on adult social care providers in England and their workforce. We use this information to estimate the size of the sector and characteristics of the workforce, discover patterns and trends, share insights in our reports, and create interactive data visualisations. 

Reports and visualisations

From pay rates to staff turnover, our reports and data visualisations cover a range of workforce characteristics and trends at a local, regional and national level. They’re free to use and download now.

Methodology

Our analysts and data engineers have worked with leading universities and statisticians to create our workforce models. Our methodology allows our analysis to be representative of the whole adult social care workforce.

Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set

We use data from the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS), which holds information on over 21,000 care providing locations and 700,000 workers.

User engagement and involvement

We work to engage with our users and involve them in a continuous cycle of improvements across our website, reports and visualisations. We do this in a variety of ways including: 

• A pop-up survey on website, asking our users about their experience using our website. 

• A feedback survey link in our visualisations, where users can click through to complete a feedback form specifically relating to using our visualisations to access data. 

• A contact us form, this is located on our Contact us page. Completed forms are sent through to the Workforce Intelligence – Analysis team. Alternatively users can find our team email address on the same page to contact us directly.
